2007 in the US there are about 11.3 suicides per 100000 people and 11 attempts per death.
Reasons for suicide vary
7th leading cause of death in males (2007) and and 15th in females(2007)

mental disorders, depression, substance abuse, and divorces are more likely to cause a suicide attempt
suicide is a major problem that is highly preventable
if someone close to a person commits suicide, that person is more like;y to commit suicide as well
men are almost 4x more likely to commit suicide than females
poison, suffocation, and guns/firearms are the most common ways people decide to kill themselves.
young adults are most likely to commit suicide
people age ranging from 15 to 19 commit 6.9 per 100000 commit suicides
changes in brain chemicals are associated with suicide(neurotransmitters)
